Augmented reality (AR) is a type of virtual reality that uses computer-generated images to superimpose over the physical world. AR has been around for a while, but it’s become more popular in the past few years because of the increasing popularity of smartphones and tablets.

There are different types of AR, including augmented reality apps, mobile AR, and desktop AR. Augmented reality apps use your smartphone or tablet to display additional information on top of what you see in reality.

Mobile AR uses your phone’s camera to map real-world objects and surfaces and then displays them in a virtual environment. Desktop AR lets you view virtual content on top of real-world objects.

One potential application of augmented reality is in medicine. Doctors can use mobile AR to view x-rays or scan images of patients’ injuries without having to remove their clothes or go through surgery. Another potential application is in advertising.

Businesses can use desktop AR to create custom ads that users can see when they’re looking at products in their normal surroundings, without having to open an app or visit a website.

There are several different ways to experience augmented reality, including using head-mounted displays like those used in video games, using special glasses or contact lenses, using smart devices like the iPhone 6s or Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with an app like Pokémon GO, and viewing content on large screens like those found at movie theaters or bars.

AR/VR: What are the applications in technology trends?

  1. Excellent analysis thanks Alex. I would like to know more about the impact of the discount amount on average order value. In 2019 we did 50% discount and our AOV increased during the sale. In 2020 and 2021 as did 30% and ironically, our AOV decreased – presumably because the bigger discount inspires customers to buy more expensive license options and they end up paying more overall. I’d love to see some information on whether other companies have found the same, with a some advice on whether it’s worth increasing the discount in order to increase the AOV.
